About Us

Our little dahlia farm began with a twist of irony. I grew up on a farm in northern Michigan and, as a kid, I hated gardening. But some of my fondest memories are of my grandma’s flower gardens, colors everywhere, and the quiet joy that only flowers seem to bring. Our farm name came about as a nod to my heritage as Bloem is a Dutch word for flower.

Seven or so years ago, I decided to try growing dahlias, and something clicked. What started as a small patch quickly grew into a passion. The real turning point came the year we grew all the flowers for my brother’s wedding—over 500 dahlia plants in the field that season. We’ve expanded every year since, adding new varieties and falling more in love with these incredible flowers along the way.

While dahlias are our heart, we also grow a wide selection of other annuals and perennials, including many native plants. Caring for the land matters deeply to us, which is why we use beneficial insects for pest control and prioritize practices that protect pollinators and support a healthy ecosystem.

This farm is often a family affair. My girls love creating flower arrangements and proudly show their work through 4-H at our local fair. Our youngest has even entered arrangements in local dahlia society shows—and last year, she took her flowers all the way to the American Dahlia Society’s National Show in Chicago. We’re especially excited that the West Michigan Dahlia Society will be hosting the National Show in 2026, and we hope to meet many of you there this August.

When we’re not tending flowers or working our "day job", we’re being kept busy (and entertained) by our goats, donkey, ducks, chickens, cats, and dogs. Life on the farm is full, a little messy, and always beautiful—and we’re so glad to share it with you
